Accessibility
Water Cert Prep is a study resource for working operators, on phones in break rooms and laptops at home, so it has to be usable by everyone. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our target standard.
What we do
- Semantic, structured HTML with a visible "Skip to content" link and a single main landmark on every page.
- Color contrast that meets or exceeds WCAG 2.2 AA for text and interface controls, in both light and dark themes.
- The operator-math trainer, the process calculator, the per-state wizard, and the practice test are fully keyboard operable, with visible focus states.
- Data tables (the per-state matrix, the reciprocity view) stack into readable cards on narrow screens rather than forcing horizontal scrolling.
- No motion that cannot be stilled, no content that flashes, and no time limits on any tool.
- Every acronym is expanded on first use on a page, for readers and for assistive technology alike.
Privacy is part of accessibility
Using the site does not require an account, a login, or an email address, and there are no tracking cookies or consent walls to navigate. Analytics are cookieless and anonymized (see the Privacy Policy). Your practice progress, calculator inputs, and daily operator-log entries are stored only in your own browser, so there is nothing to sign into and nothing to remember.
How we check
Before this site goes live and as we ship changes, we run automated and manual accessibility checks against the WCAG 2.2 AA rules, and a serious or critical issue blocks the release. We also walk the tools by keyboard. Automated testing does not catch everything and our content evolves, so accessibility is an ongoing effort. If something is hard to use with assistive technology, we want to fix it.
